Identity Theft & You: Understanding the Importance of Filing a Police Report

If you have just discovered that you have become the victim of identity theft, it is crucial that you file a police report immediately.  You cannot dally in this regard.  You must waste no time in contacting the police and reporting that you have become the victim of identity theft.

Generally speaking, there are provisions in the law pertaining to what you can obtain in the way of reimbursements in the aftermath of identity theft that oblige you to file a police report.  If you fail to file a police report, you may find yourself in a position in which you will not be able to recoup all of your losses that you sustained because of the identity theft.

When you put a fraud alert on you credit file it is because you obviously suspect someone is trying to steal your identity and open accounts in your name. But times are changing and more and more people are concerned about identity theft, a lot of people wonder if putting a fraud alert on their credit file is an option before the panic button is hit.
